Attendees will learn about the Alliance for a Healthier Indiana’s four priority issues: tobacco use, obesity, infant mortality, and opioid abuse. They also will have the opportunity to hear from and ask questions of local and state leaders, including:

  • Dr. Patrick Bankston, Associate Dean and Director of IU School of Medicine-Northwest-Gary
  • Dr. Gerri C. Browning, Health Commissioner of East Chicago
  • Robert Krumwied, President and CEO of Regional Mental Health Center
  • Michael Meska, Administrative Director for Respiratory Therapy at Franciscan Alliance
  • Tameka Warren, Nurse Supervisor at Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana’s Nurse-Family Partnership Indiana Lake County Region
  • Julie Reed, J.D., Executive Vice President of the Indiana State Medical Association
  • Brian Tabor, President of the Indiana Hospital Association
  • Indiana Youth Institute

The goals of this town hall meeting are to:

  • Raise awareness of factors contributing to Indiana’s poor overall health (38th in the nation)
  • Illuminate the alarming economic costs of poor health
  • Highlight the need to address our low rate of public health spending (49th in the nation)
  • Discuss how state, regional, and local stakeholders can work together to improve Hoosier health
  • Take action—that day—to improve Hoosier health
