Attendees will learn about the Alliance for a Healthier Indiana’s four priority issues: tobacco use, obesity, infant mortality, and opioid abuse. They also will have the opportunity to hear from and ask questions of local and state leaders, including:
- Dr. Patrick Bankston, Associate Dean and Director of IU School of Medicine-Northwest-Gary
- Dr. Gerri C. Browning, Health Commissioner of East Chicago
- Robert Krumwied, President and CEO of Regional Mental Health Center
- Michael Meska, Administrative Director for Respiratory Therapy at Franciscan Alliance
- Tameka Warren, Nurse Supervisor at Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana’s Nurse-Family Partnership Indiana Lake County Region
- Julie Reed, J.D., Executive Vice President of the Indiana State Medical Association
- Brian Tabor, President of the Indiana Hospital Association
- Indiana Youth Institute
The goals of this town hall meeting are to:
- Raise awareness of factors contributing to Indiana’s poor overall health (38th in the nation)
- Illuminate the alarming economic costs of poor health
- Highlight the need to address our low rate of public health spending (49th in the nation)
- Discuss how state, regional, and local stakeholders can work together to improve Hoosier health
- Take action—that day—to improve Hoosier health
